From time to time as technology growing rapidly, the cars we drive are also getting faster and faster. The necessity of proper vehicle safety devices become bigger and bigger to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers. Auto industries are spending a huge amount of both time and money in development of safety devices to make cars as safe as possible.

Currently, there are many sophisticated vehicle safety devices compared to the early days of cars, many of them revolutionize the way we drive, though some of them did not have significant effect on our safety but only to get more profit.

In a regular high speed unrestrained crash a human body could suffer much damage due to hard contact with inside parts of the car, the amount of G-force is so high and it is not survivable. To reduce the amount of impact and G-force several safety devices has been installed in almost all cars.

There are 3 main categories in cars safety device.

·         Crash Avoidance:   Crash avoidance systems and devices help the driver and, increasingly, help the vehicle itself to avoid a collision.

·         Crashworthiness: Crashworthy systems and devices prevent or reduce the severity of injuries when a crash is imminent or actually happening. Much research is carried out using anthropomorphic crash test dummies.

Crash Avoidance: Driver Assistance

These devices help the driver to detect ordinary hidden obstacle thus preventing collision, it shows the orientation of the vehicle itself. There are many inventions which came out in this type of car safety device.

This system increases seeing distance beyond headlamp range.

2.  Adaptive Headlamps and High beam

Automatically and continuously adapts the headlamps range to the distance of vehicles ahead or oncoming.

Alert drivers to difficult-to-see objects in their path while reversing. 

4.  Adaptive Cruise Control

Maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front

5.  Lane Departure Warning Systems

Alert the driver of an unintended departure from the intended lane of travel.

6.  Deflation Detection System

Warns drivers when a low tire or blowout is detected

7.  Electronic Stability Control

Intervene to avert an impending loss of control especially in skid due to snow or rain.

8.  Brake Controls

This system controls the distribution of brakes for each tire, including anti-lock and emergency brake.

9.  Automated Parking

This system helps the drivers to park their car automatically, with little input from the driver. It uses the technology of intelligent parking assist system (IPAS), just like in prius...
